"The positive, consistent training methods adapted to the particular dog and breed has not only unlocked the ability of my Springer to work reliably, it has also taught me how to interact and operate successfully as a team. A win win! Highly recommended."
“Having trained working gundogs for several years, I decided that I would like to try my hand at Field Trials, after all, I thought, how hard could it be? I went to a couple of famous Field Trial training specialists for some lessons and I was horrified, because the first trainer I went to hit my dog (who was a cocker spaniel and only 8 months old) and the second one charged me a fortune for doing very little.
I had virtually given up on my goal before I saw a “Cold Game Training Day” advertised with Steve Smith of Wrencourt Gundogs. It was a revelation, Steve was incredibly helpful and I think my dog improved more in that one day than he had for the previous year, and I was given lots of advice about how to improve further, all of which we took on board.
I started going to Steve’s training classes and my dog and I have improved beyond all recognition, and last year we completed a full season of Field Trialing, gaining a Field Trial Award which was amazing. I cannot recommend Steve more highly, he gives clear, helpful and insightful input to your training and I have seen many others improve their techniques and training skills with their dogs.”

"Four years ago I bought a working Labrador puppy. I'd never trained a dog for working before so looked for a trainer and came across Wrencourt Gundogs. Three years later I'm still attending training twice a week.
On meeting Steve his empathy with dogs is immediately evident, he's calm but firm and puts both handler and dog at ease. Working with us at a pace suitable for us and our dogs, then pushing out abilities but also making training fun.
He never uses or allows harsh training measures on the dogs. Every lesson is informative and Steve ensures that every dog finishes each session on a successful exercise.
Steve holds 1-2-1 lessons, group lessons, and training days on a mix of grounds, which caters for all levels and abilities.
I would definitely recommend Steve at Wrencourt Gundogs, whether you want to compete or just have a working pet."
